Split analysis
The graph tells you when you lost time. Split analysis tells you where — by cutting the lap into sectors and putting every lap's sector times side by side.
Open it from the Split analysis header tab in any session that has GPS and at least one complete lap.
Reading the table
One row per lap, one column per sector, plus the lap total.
- The fastest time in each column is highlighted, so a glance down a column tells you which lap owned that sector.
- Summary rows at the bottom give the average, median, best, maximum, standard deviation, the best theoretical lap — what you'd have run by stringing together your best sector from every lap — and the best rolling lap. The Best row's lap time is a lap you actually drove, not the sum of the column bests; that sum is the theoretical lap, on its own row below.
- The best rolling lap is the quickest lap's worth of consecutive sectors anywhere in the session, wherever it happens to start. Unlike the theoretical lap, which adds up sectors from laps you never drove back to back, this is a real continuous stretch of driving — it just isn't lined up with the start/finish line, which is why it's usually quicker than your best timed lap. The cells it's made of are shaded, so you can see which two laps it came out of. Unchecking a lap breaks the run rather than joining the laps either side of it, and a borrowed reference lap never takes part.
- Drag rows into whatever order you want to compare in.
- Reference laps appear in the table alongside the session's own laps, so you can split a lap from another session against this one.
- Drag the Lap column's edge to resize it; double-click to reset.
Above the table, the selected sector is charted — speed against distance for every displayed lap, the sector's time and distance lap by lap, and a map of that stretch of track — so you can see the shape of what happened, not just the total. Click a column header to choose the sector.
Hover either speed chart and a car appears on the map for every displayed lap, in that lap's color, at that point in the lap — and the other speed chart draws a matching crosshair. It's the quickest way to see where one lap was on track while another was braking. Added in 1.7.2.
Choosing the sectors
The Division menu picks which set of sector splits to use:
- Auto — AimMac detects the corners itself: one split per corner, placed on the straight in front of it and just before the braking zone, so a sector holds a corner rather than cutting one in half. Two corners close enough to be one complex stay in one sector, and nothing under five seconds gets a split of its own.
- Any saved division for this track, including one you've starred as that track's default.
Save as Division… stores the current sectors as a reusable division for the track, and Edit Segments… opens the track's segment editor to draw them by hand — see Tracks. Editing there undoes with ⌘Z, a whole move or merge at a time.
